Newsletter

October 2008:
We have recently introduced the first installment of the Harvest Children‘s Homes newsletter!!

Susan Dunn has been selected to serve as one of 3 new Harvest Children‘s Homes (HCH) board members. The other 2 new board members are Mark Dunn and Christi Delgatty.

The purpose of the newsletter is to keep you informed of what‘s going with HCH both here in America and in Cameroon. We firmly believe that the more involved one feels with a team, a project, or a situation; the more likely that person is to truly become part of the team. So the goal of these newsletters is to keep you all abreast of the latest happenings with HCH. In the newsletter, we will also be passing along the latest prayer requests.

If you would like to receive the newsletter, please email Susan Dunn.

Recent Visit
Mark and Susan Dunn visited HCH for the first time this summer in June. Their friend, Christi, also made the trip – although this was the second time for her to visit the orphanage (and the kids were very happy to see her again!).

After returning home, God began stirring in their hearts a desire to take the good work God had began to the next level: to raise awareness of the orphanage in the States, to expand the education and training the children receive, to document the responsibilities for the various staff positions, and to formulate a process that can be duplicated so that we might open future orphanages in other parts of Cameroon.

Susan shared, "We have high and lofty goals (good thing we serve a big God!), and we realize that some things will simply take time to change or to implement – but we will work diligently to bring about the changes God has placed our hearts in His perfect timing."

New Changes
One thing that has already changed is that HCH now has a new logo! You will notice on the logo that HCH is plural… that‘s because we‘re using the logo to promote our forward thinking of having multiple orphanages caring for and training in the Lord the next generation.

We are also working on a new online site exclusively for HCH. The new site will have current pictures of all the kids (along with bios), pictures and bios of the staff, pictures and bios of the board members, current needs of the orphanage, an easy way to donate to the orphanage, and a whole host of others items. While the date remains to be determined, we are diligently working towards a completion as soon as possible.

Another goal we are working on is coordinating trips to the orphanage. This is a multi-purpose goal: one is to spread out the trips so that the disruption to the staff‘s normal responsibilities with the kids is kept to a minimum. A second goal is to have the teams go with specific agenda items for the orphanage itself – like yearly AIDS testing for all the children and staff, yearly measurements (height and weight) for the kids, ongoing staff training, completing (or starting) work projects around the compound, and any other items that may come up. In addition to these goals, we want these trips to be a blessing to the community around the orphanage.
Prayer Requests

  Please pray for:

  • Unity among all the
    board members – that
    we would all clearly
    hear God‘s voice.

  • Provision to get the new
    Web site up and running
    very soon. (We feel this
is the first step in getting
    more exposure/support
    for the orphanage.)

  • God‘s priorities in
    determining what HCH
    projects need to be
    completed and when.

  • The children as they
    have begun a new year
    of school.

  • The 5 students who are
    now learning vocational
    skills.
